GCSE Languages

GCSE courses in MFL aim to help pupils to develop their skills in reading, listening, speaking and writing in the target language. We follow the AQA GCSE courses for French, Spanish, German and Mandarin (AQA | Subjects | Languages) and the Edexcel GCSE for Russian.

On all GCSE courses, pupils study topics linked to broad key themes which include:

– People and lifestyles

– Popular culture

– Communication and the world around us

The courses are designed to broaden pupils’ knowledge of grammar and vocabulary so that they can both understand and produce the target language in written and spoken forms. Pupils will also learn about the culture of countries and communities where the target language is spoken through a variety of resources including some literature. All four key skills of reading, listening, speaking and writing are examined.

The GCSE courses provide a firm foundation and a good preparation for further study of languages at either A level or IB.
