IGCSE Chemistry

All students have the option to select Chemistry as part of a package of either 3 or 2 sciences at GCSE. Chemistry benefits from being chosen alongside both Biology and Physics to help develop wider scientific skills. Candidates are entered for Edexcel Chemistry IGCSE (4Ch1) with the major topics studied in the course being:

  • Principles of Chemistry
  • Chemistry of the Elements
  • Organic Chemistry
  • Physical Chemistry

Practical work is carried out throughout the course and assessment is 100% by terminal exams. The examination consists of Paper 1 (2 hrs) worth 61% and Paper 2 (1hr 15) worth 39%. Chemistry is required to prepare pupils appropriately for any of the Sciences at IB Diploma HL or at A Level.
