GCSE English Language and Literature

IGCSE English Language and Literature

Over two years, pupils study English Language and English Literature in an integrated programme that focuses on the key skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Pupils study a broad and challenging selection of texts from a range of cultural and historical contexts, as well as developing their creative and analytical writing skills. This is an enjoyable and rewarding course and is excellent preparation for the study of Literature either at A level or in the International Baccalaureate.

For the IGCSE English Language examination, pupils prepare to be tested on their non-fiction comprehension skills, while they will write creatively and imaginatively for coursework, along with a response on two texts from the Edexcel Poetry and Prose Anthology.

For IGCSE Literature, they prepare a novel and a poetry anthology to write about in the examination, and a Shakespeare play and a contemporary play, for coursework.
