We exist in an environment that is filled with the artefacts of human history: architecture, painting and sculpture. History of Art aims to arrive at an historical understanding of the origins of these artefacts; asking about the circumstances of their making, their functions and their public reception. By investigating the meanings behind these cultural products, shaped and reshaped over time, we better understand ourselves and each other.History of Art is a unique humanities subject which combines elements of Art, History, English, Classics and Sociology. Those who study History of Art develop a curiosity in the world around them and gain useful analytical skills for life beyond sixth form.
Art History can be studied as an A Level – History of Art or in the IB where Art History is offered as a Standard Level subject.
